A message from Clare, Steve and family On February the 11th 2007 we were plunged into what can only be described as the darkest days of our lives. The path we have trodden over the past few months has been a difficult one, full of ups and downs, not knowing if we would ever smile and laugh again together as a family. As we reflect on our journey we have experienced deep despair and desperation, not knowing if our precious son would win the battle he had with death, but win he did, (and he recalls that when he was asleep (on the ventilator) he just knew he did not want to die and that god helped him, (Edward's own words)), after the despair and desperation came hope, and with that, the optimism and inspiration we have gained from our son, Edward. He is now blessed with a true understanding of just how precious and fragile life is. So now we look forward to a future, a future with our complete family still intact. We are the lucky ones, others are not so fortunate and our hearts go out to them, for this disease should not be around. Our goals in life have now changed and apart from ensuring that we live by the motto, 'live every day as if it were your last, and love your children as if it were theirs', we aim to raise the money required for Edward to have the same choices and chances in life as everyone else. Through fundraising and donations we can give Edward what he deserves, the best. It is unbelievable that in this day and age a disease that can cause such destruction and death is still around and that vaccines are not routinely administered. Vaccines are available for Y and W135, but these are short lasting, there will hopefully be a vaccine available for the B strain soon. Nothing can be done to halt the septicaemia once it has taken hold, the only thing the medics can do is to keep on top of the septicaemia by replacing lost blood products at the phenomanal speed required. For more information please click here. We would like to send our sincere thanks to everyone who have raised funds for 'Edward's Appeal', to everyone who has prayed for him, to everyone who sent their thoughts and best wishes. You really have made a difference to two little boys life - THANK YOU X | | |
